Nephroprotective and Antioxidant Effects of Flavonoid-Rich Extract of Thymelaea microphylla Coss. et Dur Aerial Part

Thymelaea microphylla Coss. et Dur (T. microphylla), a medicinal herb that grows in arid and desert pastures, has been traditionally utilized by Moroccans to treat many diseases, including kidney failure. This study aims evaluate the nephroprotective effect against gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity (GM), thus antioxidant activity of an aqueous extract rich flavonoids from aerial part T. (APTM). The APTM was assessed using 2-2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging test β-carotene bleaching assay. this evaluated two doses 200 400 mg/kg GM-exposed male rats. Acute toxicity tested out on Swiss albino mice 2000 as dose limit. findings showed is abundant total polyphenols significant properties DPPH radicals oxidation. According acute research findings, administered do not cause death. A increase serum concentrations creatinine, urea, uric acid, sodium, chloride, calcium, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (gamma-GT), alkaline phosphatase, well urinary volume, water consumption, relative weight, were all caused administration GM In addition, reduction albumin, clearance creatinine weight gain observed rats injected with GM. Also, dramatically raised malondialdehyde level kidneys. Likewise, had poisoned histological abnormalities. However, daily treatment given injections improved biochemical parameters affected Finally, enhanced GM’s indicators nephrotoxicity, supporting its use ethnomedicinal.
